Four major ATV manufacturers now offer some sort of utility vehicle, including Interventional Arctic Cat. Powered by a 650 H1 engine, the Arctic Cat Prowler XT is big, brawny, fun and can both work and play.
The most significant challenge facing a manufacturer is to add functionality to these vehicles. If someone is going to throw down around $10,000, they’re more than likely going to have enough cash flow to accessorize the vehicle to the hilt. That’s where Arctic Cat, and others, have thought ahead. Along with its product launch, AC had a full line of goodies to turn its largest Cat into Howlin’ Prowler.

Winch It
The Prowler is a heavy-duty machine that requires a heavy-duty winch. That’s why Cat offers a 3,000-pound Warn winch kit for the 1,160-pound Prowler.
With a hand-held remote control, the Warn winch kit offers extreme versatility. A 10-foot cord lets the owner operate the control out of harms way. The 1.5-ton winch uses a sturdy 6-gauge wire and provides both self recovery and manual labor capabilities. Whether it’s saving your buddy from getting stuck in a mud hole or winching in that bull elk, this winch should help.
The kit retails for $570, which includes the roller fairlead, mounting accessories and alloy housing.

Moving Snow
As long as you’re adding the winch, you might as well add the Plow Kit. Arctic Cat offers a huge 72-inch plow blade. In order to lift the blade, however, you’ll need a winch or electronic actuator. The steel blade has five adjustable angles for extreme versatility Edge markers, snow or debris deflector and skid shoes come standard.
Don’t think of this blade as only a snow plow. With the Prowler behind the blade, it’s more than capable of pushing black dirt or gravel. The Plow Kit ($1,300) includes mounting hardware, frame, blade and mount.

It’s Electric!
If you plan on plowing snow or utilizing the rear cargo box on the Prowler, you may need to add some electric assistance. That’s right, as previously mentioned, the $300 electronic actuator is designed to lift the snow plow blade for you and your winch. It simplifies the snow plow process and lets you save your winch for other jobs. Connected to a thumb operated toggle switch, the electronic actuator includes wiring hardware and directions.
With its 600-pound cargo capacity, the rear dump box on the Prowler can be a real chore to lift on your own. That’s why Cat included an electronic box lift as one of its accessories. The $470 is worth the extra cash. The kit includes all the necessary parts and wiring.

Enclosed Cab/Windshields
The engineers at Arctic Cat decided to provide Prowler owners with a couple of different extremes as far as windshields go. The first is the low windshield. This half-window is made of polycarbonate and includes a small Arctic Cat logo. It is designed to protect the driver and passenger from roost and debris as well as bone-chilling winds. A small fin on the top of the windshield diverts air up and over the occupants.
The second windshield is part of what Cat calls its Complete Deluxe Cab Kit. You can either purchase the entire cab enclosure, doors and windshield in all, or buy the components separately. The kit retails for $2,250 and includes deluxe doors, roof windshield, rear window kit and a discounted “bundle” price.
The deluxe door kit ($1,230) is made from reinforced plastic and vinyl and has detachable upper and lower sections.
The deluxe roof kit is just that, a roof. It keeps rain, sun and the elements off the driver and rider. The ABS plastic roof must have a roof/windshield extension kit to work. That is an additional $85.
The deluxe windshield kit costs $430 and is made of scratch-resistant safety glass and reinforced rubber and metal framework. The kit, which also requires the roof/windshield extension kit, includes directional air vents, but not A/C.

Lift, Tote & Carry
If you bought this multi-passenger vehicle, chances are you did so for its ability to tote, lift and carry gear.
Though it takes up some of the cargo bed’s storage space, the Speedrack Mount Rail ($100) adds functionality to the Prowler. The innovative rail can carry not one, but two gun scabbards or a chain saw lock, bucket holder, basket and a host of other attachments. One gun scabbard and mount runs $65.

Bump It
We don’t know what it is, but a gigantic front bumper is almost a necessity. Arctic Cat didn’t forget this accessory. It’s Brushguard Bumper is huge and covers the headlights and grill, but oddly not the A-arm, shocks and CV boot area like the standard bumper, which mounts lower. Due to its location, though, Arctic Cat designed it to pivot so as not to hamper the hood access. The $200 bumper includes mounting hardware and attaches to the frame.
Mow, Sow & Spray
With a 1,250-pound tow rating, four-wheel-drive and a standard 2-inch hitch, the Prowler was built to work. Arctic Cat
sells two finish-cut mowers and one rough-cut pull-behind mower ($1,800) for those suburbanites with large yards. It’s spot sprayers and seed spreaders, combined with the Prowler, could make short work of a 10-acre plot, whether it’s for weed control or planting clover. These accessories retail from $300 to $2,000.
